This page defines many of the terms found in the Impact Map’s Legends.
Sectors
Defense. Impacts to defense infrastructure, readiness, national security, and related institutions, services and programs.
Economy. Impacts to financial services, structures, and institutions.
Education. Impacts on financial aid for education, non-discrimination educational policies and programs, and educational services.
Emergency Services, Public Safety & Law Enforcement. Impacts to public services, institutions, and programs that promote and protect individual, community, and national security and safety.
Energy. Impacts to energy costs, technologies, infrastructure, availability, and related institutions, services and programs.
Food & Agriculture. Impacts to food systems, including food availability and affordability, agricultural sales, farmers, farms, related institutions, services and programs.
Housing. Impacts on housing, related financial and construction services, institutions, and programs.
Humanities & the Arts. Impacts on funding for humanities and the arts, related programs, and institutions.
Immigration. Impacts on immigrant and nonimmigrant programs, such as employment-based visas (e.g., EB-1, EB-2, EB-3, and H1-B), international student visas (e.g., F-1 and J-2), as well as Temporary Protected Status.
Infrastructure. Impacts to the built environment and transportation and related services, institutions, and programs.
Natural Resources, Environment & Public Lands. Impacts to environment and natural resources, including changes in pollution rates and methods of control and enforcement, related institutions, and programs.
Public Health & Healthcare. Impacts on health outcomes and healthcare at individual, community, and national scales, related institutions, services, and programs.
Research & Academic Research. Impacts on internal and external research funding, programs and institutions, including government, private, and academic research.
Social Services. Impacts on social services designed to support and assist individuals and communities facing various challenges, promoting well-bring, and addressing social needs.
Action Categories
Cuts: Decreased and/or terminated efforts (i.e., firings, funding cuts, program cancellations).
Adds: New, expanded, or reinstated efforts (i.e., rehirings, unfreezing funds, new programs, services, or policies).
Responses: This category includes stories about responses to change in the federal government. For example, local or state government efforts to fund a program previously funded with federal dollars, a school’s decision to remove DEI policies, or a businesses attempt to privatize services previously provided by government.
