The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is a federal agency tasked with enhancing the health and well-being of Americans through the provision of services and advances in science. Many of the health-related agencies in the United States are housed under HHS, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These components work together to keep Americans healthy and to advance modern medicine.
HHS has experienced significant cuts since January of 2025. The current Administration has already reduced HHS by 20,000 employees and the proposed budget in FY 2026 includes a 25% cut in HHS funding overall. Additionally, the 28 divisions of the agency will be consolidated into only 15.
